Top Attractions in Queensland

Its tropical forests and sunny beaches make Queensland a favorite destination with both nature-lovers looking for adventure and the comfort-lovers looking for luxury and pampering. The Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Grand Barrier Reef and Brisbane are the main areas of interest for Queensland tourists, but the ‘Sunshine State’ is also home to an impressive number of theme parks, nature reserves, fine restaurants and hotels. During my research of the top attractions in Queensland I decided to select one attraction for each of the above-mentioned areas/categories. Are you still wondering how to make the best of your Queensland vacation? Depending on your interests, here are some great places to consider:

Withsunday is a group of islands within the perimeter of the Grand Barrier Reef, and the main gateway towards the reef’s underwater treasures. Due to their precious fauna and flora, the islands were declared a protected area and are now part of Withsunday National Park. Here your opportunities for observing the marine life are limitless. If you don’t feel up to learning how to dive, you can always embark on a glass bottom boat – it’s a unique experience.

Barron Gorge National Park

Two spectacular waterfalls, lush vegetation and a deep-blue sea in the background make this national park one of the most spectacular on the continent. There will be a lot of unique animals to observe provided you keep eyes and ears wide open. However, the main attraction of the park is the 7.5 kilometers long sky rail, taking passengers through a spectacular journey above the luxuriant rainforest.

For a more contemporary and urban feel, Brisbane is your best choice. The surrounds of Brisbane include wildlife sanctuaries and picturesque parks, but here in the city you can as well sip a latte, visit an art gallery or shop till you drop.  If you are looking for something more entertaining, try the Wet’n’Wild water park – with its crazy thrill rides and gallons of splashing fun, the park lives up to its name.

Gold Coast

Gold Coast is actually the name of a city, not a whole coast, but this doesn’t matter too much because it still has some of the best beaches and most awesome waves in Australia.  The brilliant combination of sun, tropical forests, buzzing nightlife, water canals and sky scrapers give the city its distinguished look. And speaking of sky scrapers, one think that shouldn’t be missing from your Gold Coast experience is an elevator ride atop Q1 building. The view from its sky deck (Sky Point) will take your breath away.
