by avlwyz

Those looking to explore the exotic and tropical side of Australia will sooner or later end up in Cairns. Despite its small size (Cairns cannot be compared with big Australian cities like Melbourne and Sydney), Carins is a prime tourist hub receiving hundreds of thousands of tourists every year. And while many of them head for the pristine tropical oasis on Whitsunday islands or try to uncover natural treasures in the Great Barrier Reef, there aren’t few those who choose to stay in Cairns and make the best of its sights and unique natural setting. The following are all credited as must-see attractions in Cairns:

Cairns Tropical Zoo

Cairns couldn’t call itself a proper Australian city without being the host of a zoo. The Zoo in Cairns is one of the largest and most interactive in the country: here visitors can watch and in many cases even touch hundreds of species of animals. Habitats from Queensland and from other tropical regions across the world like Africa or Asia are carefully recreated.

The scenic train rides are one of the true blessings of traveling in Australia. And cairns is just the right place to experience such a memorable ride through the Australian rainforest. The superb Barron Gorges and Barron Waterfalls will be the main attractions on your way there. As for the Village of Kuranda, you’ll be amazed by what great shopping and dining opportunities can be found in the middle of the rainforest.

Daintree Rainforest

As one of the most visited nature reserves in Australia, Daintree Rainforest enjoys great popularity among tourists and nature enthusiasts. This is one of the most ancient forests on the continent and the unique species living here are in many instances survivors or living fossils of some very, very old plants and tree species. The forest is also home to a staggering amount of insect species, exotic birds and butterflies, another reason why the place has long been declared UNSECO patrimony.

Cairns Convention Centre

Cairns Convention Centre is an award winning project and soon to become architectural symbols of Cairns. The center was build according to the principles of sustainable architecture: it’s a light, modern building surrounded by beautiful tropical gardens and with a brilliant use and reuse of energy.
