As Australia’s second largest city, Melbourne is a buzzing metropolis packed with attractions, shops and clubs. There is plenty to see and also a lot to do in this modern city in southern Australia. As an ex-host of the Olympic Games, Melbourne excels in sports facilities. Recreational areas and theme parks are located all over the city. As for its thriving nightlife and entertainment scene, Melbourne is hard to compete with, even in the case of Sydney. With the hope that you’ll enjoy your staying in this lovely Australian city, here’s our list of favorite Melbourne fun-time activities:

Water Sports and Activities

The natural harbor around Melbourne offers great possibilities for practicing watersports and water related activities. The most popular among Melbourne natives and not only are the kayak trips along the coast. Adventure seekers must definitely try one of the surfing, windsurfing or kite boarding lessons – if not all. For a very enjoyable evening around the bay, with splendid views of the Melbourne skyline, you might as well try the deluxe dinner cruises.

It would be a pity to visit Melbourne without getting an aerial view of the city. Here your options are incredibly varied, from scenic helicopter flights, to joy flights and extreme acrobatic flights – all this comes with the price of several hundred Australian dollars but it’s definitely worth the money. You can also give sky diving and balloon riding a chance – there will be just as much adrenaline.

Karting and Driving

Melbourne is a capital of car racing and motorcycling. The Fun City Go Karts is one of the city’s favorite attractions and a delightful experience for tourists of all ages. There are several agencies that offer extreme driving courses (like rally, drifting and even stunts) as well as leisure motorcycle rides in the vicinities of Melbourne.

Theme Parks

Even at the theme park chapter Melbourne is doing extremely well.  The city has a number of well-established fun parks, many of which are indoors and thus open all year round. Galactic Circus offers the kind of circus/country fair activities, all contained in a huge, modern hall. For the classical thrill rides and carousels you might want to try Luna Park and Wonderland Fun Park. The St. Kilda Spinner Jet Board Rides offer memorable speed rides for the bravest of tourists. Small kids and toddlers will surely love the Bulla Hills Railway, offering fun rides in miniature trains in a picnic area just outside Melbourne.
